Ohoh! good question!!

They do act as computers and regular communicators between people in far distances in the Magicastuck AU. They’re more like accessories/equip items that can be removed.

As you might know in Puella Magi Madoka Magica, Puella Magi already have a telepathic connection in close counters with other people. So they’re pretty useless in that sense.
